Franciscan Monastery.
The Monastery of La Rábida has been Franciscan property since the 13th century. It was declared an Historic-Artistic Monument in 1856.

Cloister interior
The building was constructed over La Rábita, a small Almohad building that gave it its name. It was founded as a monastery in 1261, as evidenced by a papal bull from Benedict XIII allowing Friar Juan Rodríguez and his companions to establish themselves as a community. The Franciscans held great influence over the region. The building is Gothic-Mudejar in style. There, the Virgin of the Miracles is worshipped and there is a 14th century alabaster carving of her. Columbus took refuge in the Monastery in 1490, after learning that the Catholic Monarchs had rejected his request to send out an expedition in search of the Indies. With the intervention of the Prior and confessor of Queen Isabella, Juan Pérez, he was able to have his proposal heard.
